Matching of non-Latin characters

Dealing with character sets from different writing systems, such as Chinese, Cyrillic, Arabic, Thai and many others is no simple task. The use of Unicode is often presented as the solution for storage, exchange and representation of such non-Latin characters.

However, in complex international business environments, where customer data integration, master data management, compliance to laws and regulations and operational excellence play an important role, Unicode is nothing more than an enabling commodity. The real challenge in matching multilingual data lies in application of robust transliteration and transcription, normalization and intelligent comparison methods.
